Summer 2011…. Here we come!

We have had a fantastic few months, not only touring with Ken Dodd, but also appearing at many corporate events. One of the highlights for us was performing at a Graduation Ball at the City Cruise Terminal in Southampton, alongside of Radio 1 DJ – Scott Mills and rapper Tinchy Stryder… it really was a fantastic night. We also performed in a great music hall-style variety show in Cardiff – ‘One Night Only’ alongside of 2 of our very good friends, witty comedian Terry Gauchi and fab compere & gameshow host Greg Johns. We also attended the legendary ‘Ferrybridge Day of Magic’, where we throughly enjoyed catching up with friends. As you can see from the picture, we have caught up with another friend of ours – Titan!! We are working alongside Titan through out this Summer, so keep an eye out for him around the UK!! Titan has been known to work with stars such as JLS, Rihanna and Will Smith…. not forgetting Amethyst, of course!! Blackpool Magic

Once again, another busy month for us, where we attended the worlds largest magic convention held in Blackpool organised by Blackpool Magicians Club. As we mentioned in our previous post, Danny was part of the jury for the first ever FISM European Championships, proudly hosted by Blackpool. We would like to say a big thank you to Derek Lever and his team who seem to effortlessly pull off an amazing convention, year after year. So, just after the convention we headed off for a week of shows driving from one end of the country to the other stopping off for some consulting work on a new TV show….. more news of this when we can! Upon our return home, we were invited to Blackpool Magicians Club headquarters to meet up with friends where we were informed by Derek Lever that Blackpool Magicians Club would like to make us full members of the club! We of course accepted without hesitation, it will be a great honour to represent such a wonderful and prestigious club. We look forward to assisting Blackpool Magicians Club with its many projects in the very near future….. check back regularly for updates!!!

FISM European Championships 2011

Wow, what a busy start to 2011 we have had! We are now pleased to announce some very exciting news…. Danny is to become the UK Stage Judge at the first ever FISM European Championships, to be held as part of Blackpool Magic Convention, 18th – 20th Feb 2011! We both feel very honoured that Danny has been asked and we would like to thank everyone at FISM and Blackpool Magicians Club. The FISM European Championships are being held as part of the worlds largest Magic Convention which sees over 3500 magicians from all over the world assemble in Blackpool. This is ahead of the FISM World Championships, again, also to be held in Blackpool from 9th-14th July 2012. The 59th Blackpool Magic Convention is organised by Derek Lever on behalf of Blackpool Magicians Club of which we are both proud to be Associate Members. ‘The Magicians’!!

First things first, we hope you’ve all had a very merry christmas? Sorry for not updating our blog sooner, where has november and december gone?! We’ve had a nightmare with the weather, battling through the snow to get to all of our venues on time! One day we were even sat 8 hours on th M1, stuck in snow!!! Only having 4 days off in december – its fair to say we have had a very hectic schedule! We would just like to thank everyone who has continued to send us very nice emails about our new website and what we are up to.

So… what have we been up to?! Touring with the one and only King of Comedy, Ken Dodd, at various venues throughout the UK. We have also had the great pleasure of working with one of our very close friends – Scott Penrose. Scott is vice-president of the Magic Circle and magical consultant/advisor on numerous Films, Musicals and TV programmes. As well as being a magical genious, he is also a throughly nice chap!!!!http://uk.ask.com/wiki/Scott_Penrose

We both had the privledge of working with Scott as an escape consultant for the new Saturday night BBC TV programme ‘The Magicians’, due to air on BBC1, new years day at 7:30pm. See link for more details http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/magicians/

It was a great honour to be filming on set at the world famous Pinewood Studios, home of none other than……. James Bond 007!!!

If you do get to check ‘The Magicians’ out, make sure you keep a look out for these two masked magicians!!! Scott and Danny spent hours in ‘hair and make-up’ to achieve this look!!!

We have lots of large flight cases arriving from every corner of the globe, what seems to be every other day….. it is just a good job we have nice neighbours!!! Trick of the mind?

Well its been a busy few months, apologies for not updating our blog sooner! Its not stopped yet, still got loads of exciting new projects coming up and we are currently preparing for next years shows – more news to come soon! Over the last few months we have been working with our very good friend, Paul Stockman. For those of you that dont know, Paul is one of the UK’s leading psychological entertainers. Anyone who has witnessed Pauls amazing abilities, will know that it is entertainment like nothing else you have ever seen before! When we first saw Paul’s act we were absolutely blown away. Catch his act if you get the chance! Paul is just getting ready to jet off to the US, where he is lecturing and performing. www.paulstockman.com Its been great working with Paul this year and we have some projects lined up whereby we will be working with Paul next year.

Sorry its only been brief this time, but we are just about to head off to the IBM British Ring convention in Eastbourne, you can catch us performing our illusion show and presenting our escape workshop.

Lights, Camera, Action…….

We mentioned in a previous post that we had been working on some exciting new projects, this is one of them!! Having completed working as creative and escapology consultants for the new BBC drama ‘Sherlock’. Sherlock is a modern day take on the original Sherlock Holmes created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Conan Doyle was a very good friend of Harry Houdini.

Sherlock is co-created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the new Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as his loyal friend, Doctor John Watson. Rupert Graves plays Inspector Lestrade.

We throughly enjoyed working with the cast and crew, inparticular was Chi who is pictured above with Danny and plays the part of the Chinese Warlord We think that if he ever wanted to give up his job as an actor, he would make a great escapologist!!! We are looking forward to it being screened sometime this summer.

Other news, we have just got back from the showbiz capital of the world – Ferrybridge Day of Magic ! As usual it was a fantastic day for all involved, top class dealers, lectures and gala show. It was great to catch up with John Archer, High Jinx and Scott Penrose who all made time in their busy schedules to be there.

When the circus comes to town!!!

After 2 great show’s at Glasgow’s Pavilion Theatre working with Ken Dodd this weekend, we were thrilled to meet up with the worlds greatest ringmaster and one of the nicest men you could ever meet – Norman Barrett OBE!! We had a great chat with him and would have loved to have stayed there longer in order to catch up with Norman, who is currently touring with Zippos Circus. They will be in Glasgow until 23rd June, for more info check out www.zipposcircus.co.uk . We unfortunately had to get home to carry out work on some props for a new TV drama, to air shortly. We will keep you posted on this!!! We would also like to thank everyone who sent us lovely emails about our new-look website.

Gentoo Live Conference 2010

This week we joined forces with our good friend John Archer, Magic Circle Stage Magician of the Year to perform at the Gentoo Conference 2010 held in Houghton-le-Spring, Durham. Together we miraculously made the Cheif Executive, Peter Wall, appear from out of nowhere!! It was a great chance for us to catch up with John, despite having to travel across 3 counties to get there and surviving on 4 hours sleep!! We even had chance for lots of coffee and a bacon butty – any excuse!!!

Amethyst New Blog!

Hello everyone, welcome to our new blog. We are going to try and keep everyone updated on what we have been up to and what we are going to be getting up to!! We will try to update it as often as we can.

Its been a busy year for Amethyst so far, we have been dashing from one end of the country to the other – with some very late nights and very early mornings! We are currently touring with comedy legend Ken Dodd in various venues up and down the UK. We have also had great fun launching our new flea circus show, debuting at the Ripon Workhouse Museum for their ‘Turn back Time’ event. We have also been working on a new BBC drama, as creative and escape consultants – more info will follow shortly!
